After the big names from Sweden like Swedish House Mafia, Avicii, Dada Life and John Dahlbäck, there’s another talent forthcoming from the Swedish Revolution. We as Reviped, had some time to catch up with the 25 year old talented DJ and producer Mikael Weermets to talk about his start as a DJ, his successful remix for Adele’s ‘SOMEONE LIKE YOU’ and his upcoming album ‘THIS IS MIKAEL WEERMETS’. Get to know Mikael Weermets.
Let’s start with the beginning, How did you started as a DJ?
I started at some youth events when i was a kid, I think my first spin was at the age of 12. Played for the older kids, I wasn’t even old enough to get in! I was always in to the whole DJ-thing even though I wanted to be a radio DJ from the beginning.
Where do you get your inspiration from? Any names you look up to?
All DJ´s that are only in it for the music and the passion for the whole scene are inspirational to me, i could never just mention a few. I get inspired by the actions of the DJ´s most of the time, the way they perform, produce and shoot themselves out in the world.

I heard that you are working on an album named “This Is Mikael Weermets”, what can we expect from this one and do you have any idea when it will be released?
To be honest that album was supposed to be released this summer already, but I pulled it back, since I wanted to change some stuff around. What you can expect from it is a 100% me album, there are no rules or genres. Just music that I want to do, then its up to the individual to like it. The first singles that´s been released work out very good, so I’m really excited about what happens next.
You are doing your own podcasts “Sound Of Now”. What made you want to do this? What can people expect from these and where to get them?
Sound Of Now is my way of expressing my own style and the way I DJ. I started out playing hip hop, cause the house scene wasn’t very strong in Sweden atm, so my style kinda developed that way, a lot of mashups, edits, own productions, quick mixing and a lot of energy. In my DJ-sets I play 100% my own edited stuff, to get that personal twist on the DJ-set.
You have quite a lot of bookings at this point, any gigs your are particularly looking forward to?
Yeah, thank god the calendar´s full! There so much stuff coming up, a lot of tours, Brazil, Egypt, India, Singapore among others. Then I’m hitting Austria, France, Poland, Azerbaijan, Lebanon, Germany, Switzerland and a lot more that I of course forgot now, haha.

What are your plans for the (near) future? Beside all the gigs, are there any big collaborations coming up that you can scoop us?
Ohoooo, there´s a lot coming. A lot of collabs, as usual with some really cool producers & vocalists. There´s actually starting a mini series on my youtubechannel in the coming week, with 3 min episodes from my traveling, shows & all the other goofy stuff I’m up to when I’m on the road, I´ve seen some clips and its really funny, so you should look out for it! Then it’s some other stuff in the making, but those have to be kept a secret for just a while more, and then I´ll tell you all about it.
As a finale I´d just like to thank everyone that’s supporting my work, I feel really blessed having so amazing people around me, thank you!
