Ferry Corsten is celebrating the release of his new iPhone app ‘Ferry Corsten: 20 Years App’. The app contains a special digital mix compilation including tracks that have never been released before. Ferry tells us about the app, 2011 and most important; 2012. Find out more in this special interview!
First of all a happy belate birthday to you and for being the first artist to release an app including an album!
Thank you! I can’t say how happy I am with the app.
You are celebrating your 20-year anniversary as an artist with the release of a special app named ‘Ferry Corsten: 20 Years App’ in the App Store. Why did you choose to release an app instead of a hardcopy album?
The app is more than just an album. This app is a reflection of my last 20 years as a dj and producer. In the app you will not only find the mix but also a discography of the last 20 years with direct links to iTunes. It also includes exclusive photo material which never has been released before and there is also a function in which you can morph my face through the years. I have chosen to release the app because apps have been very popular the last couple of years and I wanted to try something new.
You released another app in the past named Cue Play DJ, ‘the most advanced iPhone DJ software ever’ (according to your website). What made you want to bring this to the market back then? Does it have a lot of users?
As a DJ and music producer I’m fond of music software and hardware. When Cue.Play.DJ approached me at its developing phases to discuss and advise them on the application itself I was very excited and always willing to give advise where needed. Cue. Play.DJ definitely has a lot of users! I believe when it was first launched it was on the top 10 apps for quite some time. More importantly, it is a great tool for start up DJs.
Now we are talking iPhone apps, I guess you own one yourself. What are your 5 most used apps?
Yes, I recently started using the iPhone and so far I really enjoy it! I guess the 5 most used apps are
1. Ferry Corsten App
2. 20 Year Producer
3. Cue.Play.DJ
4. Whatsapp
5. Angry Birds
Going down the memory lane; what do you consider the most proud full moment in the past 20 years?
Musically there would be too many to mention…but I guess personally it would be the birth of my daughter.
You must be getting excited about the upcoming FULL ON FERRY show at the 02 Academy Brixton in London. How are you preparing for that? Any idea which track you will use to start off the new year?
I am really excited to play at the 02 Academy, especially with my own show, Full On Ferry. I’m currently preparing the set for the evening so I guess you’ll have to come down and see it for yourself
What’s your goal for 2012?
Promoting my artist album “WKND” will be released that year and promoting “Full on Ferry” around the world.
You are currently working on new tracks with top artists that are scheduled for release in the beginning of next year. Besides the fact that this will be released on your own label Flashover Recordings, we would like to get a hint in the right direction if it comes to ‘Top artists’. What can you tell us?
I made my last single ‘Brute’ together with Armin van Buuren. I don’t wanna spoil too much about my other tracks yet as I want it to be a surprise when I release my album.
